From Emily Faherty, your About Books & Literature Editor

If you're at a loss for the words to adequately express your gratitude, look to some of the best writers around for inspiration.

15 Perfect Poems for Thanksgiving Day
We love this collection of classic American poems about (or appropriate for) Thanksgiving Day. Plus, how impressed would the rest of the table be if you stood up and recited one of these before you feast? Some of our favorites from the list include:

Louisa May Alcott's Thanksgiving
One of the best known pieces of classic literature about Thanksgiving is An Old-Fashioned Thanksgiving by Louisa May Alcott. The story takes place in rural New Hampshire in the 1800s at the Bassett family's heartwarming Thanksgiving Day.

Review: 'The Good Lord Bird'
The team on our Contemporary Literature site just published a review of James McBride's The Good Lord Bird. The reviewer says the historical novel, which follows abolitionist John Brown through the last half of the 1850s, has great character development that makes the "novel something far greater than its story and a fine addition to the canon of American historical fiction."

Flannery O'Connor's 'Good Country People' Analysis
I loved reading this short story in high school, so I was happy to dive into our Short Stories Expert's article on the use of clichés in Good Country People by Flannery O'Connor. It took me right back to senior year English class! Here are a few more analyses of short stories to check out:

About Books & Literature: What to Read Before it Hits the Silver Screen

About

From Emily Faherty, your About Books & Literature Editor
This week, we're taking a look back at some of the books that were made into movies in 2013 to see how they really stacked up against the originals. What's making its way to theaters in 2014, you ask? We've got that too, so you can be sure to read ahead of the release dates (as a true bookworm should).

'Safe Haven'
Our book reviewer enjoyed Safe Haven, a romantic Nicholas Sparks novel set in a small Southern coastal town, calling it "complex, more gothic tale than usual." But did moviegoers feel the same way about the film version starring Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel?

'Enders Game'
Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card was first published in 1985, but it only just hit theaters this November. Can the film adaptation (and the star power of Harrison Ford) capture the adventure of the award-winning science fiction classic?

'Catching Fire'
We're counting down the days (10!) until the movie premiere of Catching Fire. And we say that's plenty of time for a quick refresher of the second book in the Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins.

What's Coming to Theaters in 2014?
There are plenty of great books (and that one piece of erotica) already slated with 2014 movie release dates. Consider this your latest books-to-movies reading list:
