| | From Megan Romer, your About Books & Literature Editor As far as I'm concerned, summer starts the day after Memorial Day. A quick glance at the calendar reveals that the day after Memorial Day is TODAY! HOLY COW! IT'S SUMMER, PEOPLE!!!!! (Yes, the use of capital letters and multiple exclamation points was necessary just then.) | | How to Plan Your Summer Reading List I secretly wish that my high school English teacher would still knock on my door the first week of June, hand me a list of books, and return in September to make sure I'd read them all. It would save me all sorts of agony... which books to buy, start, put down, pick up, pack in my beach bag, etc. Then again, that scenario would probably cause regression, and I'd just read trashy magazines all summer and put off the reading list until the middle of August. | Summer Reading Lists for Kids and Teens Since the lovely Mrs. Vignaux has retired, and is unlikely to show up with a summer reading list for me, I may have to look around for some reading lists. These ones, from various and sundry librarians' associations and other in-the-know folks, might be a bit young for me, but if you've got young readers who need their summers filled, this is the place to look. | The Books of Summer... Part 1 Perhaps you're the avant-garde type (or just, you know, really organized and on top of stuff) who likes reading things the minute they hit the shelves. If so, here is a list of this month's releases... get 'em while they're hot. | Don't Forget the Best Books of 2009 Maybe you're more like me, though, and still finishing up your reading list from the summer of 1997. If so, here are the best books of 2009, most of which are now in paperback and ripe for hammock reading. | | | | Books & Literature Ads | | | | Featured Articles | | | | | More from About.com | | | | | | Great Stuff Kids Love From the hottest tunes and best online videos to favorite books and classic toys, here are our top picks for the kids in your life.
