From Erik Wander, your About Books & Literature Editor
For many people the first week of April means just one thing. And while April Fools' Day may be fun, that one thing really is the start of a new baseball season. So whether you're taking in a game or waiting for warmer weather to take someone (or be taken) out to the ballgame, here is some recommended reading in the spirit of the occasion.

Call Yourself a Baseball Fan? 10 Must-Reads
What happens in the clubhouse stays in the clubhouse, right? Not according to one eccentric pitcher-turned-author who broke baseball taboo by taking readers behind the scenes in 1969, revealing the sometimes ugly, often hilarious truth about some of America's biggest heroes. Jim Bouton's is just one of the true stories you'll find on this list of books, many of which, like Bouton's Ball Four or Michael Lewis's Moneyball, you don't even have to be a baseball fan to enjoy, just a fan of great storytelling.

Artful Fiction and 'The Art of Fielding'
Speaking of great storytelling and baseball, Hollywood will soon take a crack at it (yet again) with the release of 42, a biopic about Robinson. But if you want to read a great piece of fiction revolving around, but also about so much more than baseball, try this remarkable debut by Chad Harbach. Don't let the technical, inside baseball-sounding title fool you. This is a great read for baseball lovers or anyone who simply loves to read novels.
