From Megan Romer, your About Books & Literature Editor
Every couple of years, there's a new book that seemingly becomes the "it" gift for those who really have no idea what to get you. A few years back, for example, I received a whopping four copies of Julia Child's My Life in France ("I know you love cooking and reading!"). This year, I'm betting I'll see at least three copies of The Autobiography of Mark Twain, Vol. 1.

The Autobiography of Mark Twain, Vol. 1
Mark Twain wrote lots of memoirs, but before he died, he wrote an official autobiography and forbid his publishers from publishing it until 100 years after his death. The reason? He wanted to make sure that any named people were absolutely dead before the book was printed. Oh, this oughtta be good!

Dark Thoughts on Holiday Newsletters
Seeing as how I am actually a professional newsletter writer (weird, but true -- you're looking at the evidence, after all), it's sort of a given that I pen an annual newsletter, and I've been told I've got a real knack for it. By my grandmother. And no one else. Maybe I need to re-think this a little bit.
