| Books for Tweens and Young Teens About Writing Poetry
Some kids love poetry, and write it by the notebookful; others are slightly more reluctant. If you have a young writer in your life who needs a bit of a push or just a bit of polish, these great books will certainly be of help.
| Emily Dickinson: 'Poetry, Series One'
Even reluctant poetry-readers often find themselves loving Emily Dickinson. Her poems are simple, rhythmic, and evoke lovely images of nature and beauty and the circle of life. Also, as they're almost all written in what's called "common meter," they can be sung to the tune of "Amazing Grace," "The Yellow Rose of Texas," or even the 'Gilligan's Island' theme song, as well as a number of other folk and popular songs. Isn't poetry fun?
